shadow

Today saw my first ride out after I've spent a week at home recovering from a serious flue. It was a lovely (dry!) day with some gentle wintersun out. As could be expected after not training for a whole week I was merely a shadow of my former self. Still it felt so good to finally get the cobwebs out of the legs.

This bugger that I met en route was not looking too well either I reckoned.

OK I'm a wuss. I admit

With the festive season over and the Christmas puddings weighing heavy on my stomach....there was a need for my off season switch to be turned firmly on....as it were. Now Antwerp in winter does have it's appeal - but mostly to umbrella manufacturers. And whilst the turbo is a wonderful invention, I like my relationship with it to be a loose, once-a-week kind of fling rather than a committed, everyday ride. In my mind there is only one solution: be like a goose and fly south for winter. Ok I'm a wuss, I admit.
So in just a few weeks I will be boarding a flight to Benicasim near Valencia: famed for hosting many of the UCI protour teams during their pre season training camps and many a mutlisport athlete. What better place to kick start the 2009 season and turn that off switch firmly on?!
Can't wait to get working on those tan lines

my new ride

Today I'm feeling strong as a pancake. Was biking in the cold yesterday, and went for a run in the rain this morning. Should have known better - been coughing all day
I've got a new ride on it's way here, so at least someting's cheering me up. Hope I get past this lousy feeling once it gets here, so I'll be able to give it a full blast.

Fun

Aahh I had so much fun today. I Went out riding from Antwerp to Brussels this afternoon in the drizzle and near freezing temperatures and got a flat. My hands were so cold the repair took me ages. At last I finally was able to test this new mini pump... it sucks!!

I had to ride the last 20km in the dark. Made for a nice sunset view along the river though....

remember

You're alive. Do something. The directive in life, the moral imperative was so uncomplicated. It could be expressed in single words, not complete sentences. It sounded like this: Look. Listen. Choose. Act.
You have to surf out of your comfort zone to catch the wave that will change your life!

strong, big, fast
